Sr Manager - Inbound Planning & Optimization

As the Sr. Manager of Inbound Planning at AEO, Inc., you will be responsible for planning the inbound logistical activities/initiatives which supports the movement of 200M+ units worldwide annually. You will be responsible for continuously assessing and optimizing inbound logistics processes in order to meet and exceed AEO’s operational goals while meeting business needs of profitability. In addition, you will inspire your team and lead efforts to deliver sound results; exceeding customer expectations, optimizing spend, delivering innovation and developing a talented team.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining knowledge of global economics and the transportation industry to optimize logistics plans to consistently achieve AEO’s receipt plans and have a positive impact on financial targets
  • Understanding the existing planning processes in order to define the future state; identifying the key planning capabilities needed to achieve the department’s vision and goals  
  • Working closely with AEO’s Supply Chain teams as well as across key cross-functional business partners to understand business drivers/changes, profitability goals and service requirements necessary to plan the movement of goods from vendors to the DCs/third party transloaders 
  • Working with the Director of Inbound Operations to develop risk plans for all origin and touch points in the supply chain to create efficient flow of goods
  • Working with the network planning group, distribution centers, planning and allocation teams to understand and forecast the needs of the inbound organization
  • Developing a learning organization that continuously understands the reliability of the flow of the products; finding points of failure to develop operational excellence plans
  • In partnership with the Sr. Director of Global Inbound and the broader Supply Chain Leadership Team, developing plans to increase the velocity of inbound logistics and deliver cost savings in transportation spend; specifically by managing all inbound planning and optimization actions 
  • Creating plans that reduce labor, inventory challenges, and logistics-related costs while improving supply chain flexibility and predictability as it relates to the movement of goods into the distribution network 
  • Managing the day-to-day analysis of inbound logistics network failures; spotting opportunities for speed, cost and service improvements via cost analysis, transit time analysis, etc.  
  • Evaluating logistics flows, processes, and systems to identify improvement opportunities, then developing and implementing solutions
  • Fostering collaborative relationships with various leaders and serving as a role model leader for the organization; displaying thought leadership and alignment with the Company’s strategies and core values
  • Driving supply chain efficiency/effectiveness as well as solutions to meet ever-changing customer service expectations; pushing innovative solutions for the betterment of our Customers as well as in support of the overall business strategy
  • Ensuring effective expense management and development/implementation of strategies to drive reductions in costs while maintaining or improving service level to customers
  • Implementing improved processes and methods to generate higher ROI and workflow optimization, including implementing productivity/quality metrics and programs designed to minimize costs and enhance efficiency
  • Building cross-functional partnerships, leveraging insights from various areas of the business to inform planning processes 
  • Leading and coaching direct report(s) through a wide array of topics including business strategy to the tactical execution of the strategy; providing expertise on complex topics, leaning on prior experiences and know-how to guide others to meet or exceed goals; championing the development of associates, ensuring a robust succession plan
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field. Advanced Degree (Master’s / MBA) preferred 
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working with supply chain management/logistics 
  • Demonstrated ability of managing cost, performance, planning optimization; experience working with large, global retail organizations a plus 
  • Strong understanding of transportation management methods, and strong knowledge base reg: carrier models 
  • Experience with data-driven analytics, metrics, KPIs to measure and drive results
  • Strong communication including written/verbal; experience presenting to large audiences including top leadership  
  • Ability to build trust and effectively influence at all levels of the organization  
  • Demonstrated experience leading a diverse, high-performing team; fostering “ready now” talent as future successors 
  • Ability to travel
