Sr. Analyst – Outbound Planning & Optimization

As a Sr. Analyst of Outbound Planning & Optimization at AEO, Inc., you will be responsible for performing analytics that support the planning of outbound logistical activities/initiatives. You will also support the digital order sourcing logic and necessary configurations to ensure the best movement of goods to our customers. You will be responsible for continuously assessing and optimizing all logistics processes in order to meet and exceed AEO’s operational goals while meeting business needs of profitability. In addition, you will support efforts to deliver sound results that exceed customer expectations, optimize spend, and deliver innovation while working alongside a talented and passionate team.

Your responsibilities include:

  • In partnership with the Manager – Outbound Planning & Optimization, increasing velocity of outbound logistics and delivering cost savings in overall digital/DTC transportation spend; specifically by performing day-to-day analysis to support outbound planning and optimization responsibilities which includes order shipping logic and inventory exposure logic  
  • Performing extensive analysis on the actualization of rates and enhancing rate shopping and transit shopping capabilities; tweaking the network on an ongoing basis based on analytics and key insights; performing network modeling to solve complex logistics and fulfillment issues and adapt to business demands
  • Participating in regular business briefings; converting the business needs to the execution needs relative to the orders sourcing and inventory positioning engines; performing the necessary behind-the-scenes work to execute these actions including in depth analysis and problem solving 
  • Performing network failure analysis on inventory positioning, demand forecasting, carrier selection, services levels and fulfillment node parameters to drive optimal network performance
  • Testing new capabilities and sourcing changes to enable in-market node, same day, next day and two-day delivery models including steps towards personalization and localization experiences 
  • Performing day-to-day in-depth analysis of logistics network failures and opportunities including cost analysis, inventory positioning problems, service optimization, ideal note / fulfillment analysis, model failure analysis, carrier selections (regional vs. national, local inject models), transit time analysis, accessorial and rate card shopping logic, zone skipping opportunities, etc.
  • Supporting strategic initiatives with ad hoc analysis over large datasets; collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data; using appropriate tools to automate analysis where able
  • Developing, analyzing and disseminating moderately complex reports; articulating the story behind the data in order to translate the information into working solutions and recommendations
  • Participating in the procurement process of parcel transportation providers including business opportunity analysis, requests-for-proposals, contract negotiation, and ongoing management of vendor relationship as required 
  • Assisting with the management and fine-tuning of DTC order optimization engine logic; identifying the optimal configurations of inventory exposure, carrier and service selection, and fulfillment methods to reduce costs and delivery time, minimize fulfillment failures, and improve customer experience 
  • Analyzing impacts of inventory placement, fulfillment node performance, and carrier performance on direct to consumer orders in order to improve network capabilities; acting as subject matter expert for current shipping processes, sourcing points, and distribution network 
  • Educating business partners on parcel transportation networks, policies, carrier services, and shipping best practices; identifying and implementing process improvements to facilitate greater efficiencies, costs savings, and improve customer experience 
  • Working with cross-functional teams to develop high-level project reporting, meeting agendas, project timelines; driving action items and ensuring strong performance against all deliverables 
  • Effectively communicating and presenting ideas, data and insights to all tiers of the organization; preparing weekly/monthly presentations and status updates as needed 
  • Assimilating findings and recommendations to leadership; communicating perceived risks to senior leadership with recommendations for mitigation planning 
  • Other duties and projects as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain/Logistics, Mathematics or related field
  • 3+ years’ experience in supply chain operations and / or working with third party logistics providers
  • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, & planning skills; ability to identify trends within large data sets and make recommendations based on data analysis
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills with an ability to explain logistics processes and problems to non-practitioners
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team
  • Self-motivated and driven; ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Highly organized and efficient with strong attention to detail
  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) preferred
  • Certified in Supply Chain Management (CSCM) or LEAN/Six Sigma preferred
