Senior Director - Outbound Delivery

As Senior Director - Outbound Delivery, you will drive excellence in transportation and delivery in the annual movement of 246M+ units including 25M+ parcel shipments, direct to customer, store deliveries, returns and non-merchandise deliveries. You will be responsible for outbound delivery innovation by keeping a pulse on latest industry research and insights that enable you to build a broader strategy for outbound operations, transportation/carrier performance and last mile delivery. As a leader, you will inspire your team and lead efforts to deliver sound operating results exceeding customer expectations, optimizing spend and developing a talented team.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading all outbound operational actions for parcel, store delivery, returns and non-merchandise items to ensure the successful movement of goods from our DCs directly to our stores and customers
  • Continuously optimize the flow of goods, reduce costs and drive reliability of speed and efficiency in the network to support growing and changing capacity needs; Implement new delivery strategies like same day, next day and 2 day delivery models; in market delivery and chase
  • Incubating, launching, testing and scaling high impact delivery strategies that drive growth and innovation for last mile delivery capabilities and complex parcel delivery models such as direct injection, transportation network optimization and expanding carrier capabilities
  • Utilizing transportation, freight audit and carrier data to track underlying causes of parcel trends and issues providing recommendations and solutions for improvements
  • Leveraging strong working relationships with key carrier personnel; ensuring timely communication of transportation-related disruptions and their impact to AEO’s business; working proactively to provide solutions in order to mitigate delays, risks and ensuring services are in line with contractual commitmens
  • On-going development and coaching of the Outbound Operations team to ensure that business needs are being met in accordance with key performance indicators; supporting and coaching managers and their teams in their daily activities and providing direction and feedback as needed; ensuring clear goals are being communicated and team members are recognized for their efforts
  • Developing an expansive network of industry contacts to retain a constant pulse on market conditions and competition; collaborating with the Global Inbound team to ensure smooth transition of cargo into all markets
  • Additional responsibilities, travel and projects as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, Supply Chain/Logistics or related field; Advanced degree such as Masters or MBA preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in related supply chain operations leadership roles; extensive experience working with 3PL providers and carriers
  • Demonstrated ability in working with data, performing analysis and converting the analysis to actionable insights
  • Travel is required; Experience in international travel preferred
  • Ability to work with and influence peers  and senior management
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, & planning skills
  • Self-motivated and driven; ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environme
