As the Network Architect at American Eagle Outfitters, you will analyze, design, and engineer the connectivity that drives our business. Our network team supports a complex network connecting the Internet, on premises datacenters, ecommerce platforms, and multiple cloud solutions to thousands of AE locations including our retail stores, corporate offices and distribution centers. We manage and protect our internal network assets with the most advanced firewalls and security devices to provide comprehensive defense and optimal uptime.

  • Evaluate and provide recommendations of overall network requirements for performance, availability, utilization and reliability.
  • Design, implement, tune, and manage networking technology.
  • Analyze technical architectures and provide guidance on systems performance improvements as impacted by network architecture.
  • Manage projects and communicate project status to balance of Network Team, project leaders, and management.
  • Support disaster recovery by designing and maintaining appropriate, recoverable network technologies.
  • Provide top level escalation support of the Corporate, Stores, Cloud, and other AEO networks.
  • Maintain currency with trends and best practices in information technology.
  • Share information and knowledge and cross-train with I/S colleagues.
  • Support the business customer and IS colleagues as required to ensure mutual success.
  • Review, analyze, and make cost saving recommendations for all networking technologies.
  • Assist, oversee and/or create and maintain networking related documentation. 
  • Coordinate and oversee vendor installations and maintenance.  Manage select vendor relationships.
  • Analyze statistical data for capacity planning, reporting, and recommendations for network upgrades as input to budget planning.
  • Analyze project requirements and design appropriate solutions.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience required
  • 7+ years of networking experience required
  • In depth knowledge of Complex Data Center Design, Cisco Nexus Routing/Switching N7K, 5K, 2K, ACI, Cisco UCS, Load Balancing, Internet Services, DMZ Services, and Ecommerce
  • In depth knowledge of routing/switching technologies, BGP, Spanning Tree, Trunks, Port Channels, QOS, WAN technologies
  • Ability to Design/implement highly complex on premises and cloud datacenter topologies (Cisco Nexus, AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • In depth knowledge of Palo Alto Firewalls, L2L VPN Tunnels and Remote Access VPN
  • Knowledge of PCI Regulatory Compliance requirements
  • Experience with SDWAN technologies and maintaining large networks via automation and scripting
  • Knowledge of Cisco and Meraki Wireless networks, Wireless Management, 7500, 5500 Controller and MSE/Location Services
  • Experience with network authentication protocols, 802.1x, Cisco ISE, ACS, TACACS, RADIUS
  • Exceptional network troubleshooting and problem isolation skills
  • Experience in network capacity planning
  • Detailed knowledge of IP addressing, DNS, TCP, UDP, ICMP, packet capture analysis
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, and presentation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
