As Manager of Operations Excellence, you will play an integral role in preparing AEO’s distribution network for increased processing capabilities in order to best support the growth of our business. You will assist in identifying areas to apply lean principals and guidelines to AEO’s distribution centers that improve speed, cost and service. You will work closely with the Sr. Manager of Operations Excellence and the DC management teams to develop and deploy solutions that improve the operational success of the distribution centers.

 

Your responsibilities include:

 

  • Supporting the introduction of lean / kaizen into core functions of AEO’s Global Distribution Operations; ensuring strong lean integration efforts into the operations and sustainment over time

     

  • Translating concepts into practices, identifying process improvement opportunities and quantifying results

     

  • Supporting activities to map the current state, identify the future state, and develop standard work for normal and abnormal workflow in order to streamline and standardize tasks

     

  • Practicing and teaching fundamental problem solving to find problems, define them, fix them and keep them from coming back; working closely with DC Operations to provide coaching and mentoring (especially with project leads)  

 

  • Executing tactical plans to integrate Lean thinking into the fabric of AEO’s Distribution Center Operations; ensuring all projects and continuous improvement efforts are accomplished on time and documented in consistent formats in order to leverage network wide

 

  • Ensuring all process improvement initiatives support the long-term strategic needs of the DCs (including but not limited to automation, innovation and other process improvement topics) and building/managing the capital outlay

     

  • Developing the flow logistics concepts for the DC –  striving towards zero waste and continuous movement of goods through the distribution center

     

  • Identifying and evolving the blueprint for the DC in collaboration with our future distribution needs; for example, the role of regional market and its impact on the flow of goods, etc.

     

  • Planning and managing the short-term, mid-term and long-term production planning needs; building and owning the contingency plans for labor by working directly the Manager of Production Planning and also with the leadership/managements teams in the DCs

     

  • In partnership with the DC Operations teams, owning the relationship with 3rd party / temp agencies; planning, building and managing the peak holiday plans and building contingency strategies to help mitigate risks to the flow of goods

     

  • Inspiring superior performance through your leadership, role modelling, building positive relationships  

     

  • Partnering with DC leadership and corporate support teams to develop baseline financial metrics to document savings/benefits of projects / initiatives

     

  • Leading and supporting initiatives that ensure the DC operates with industry best practices in the areas of Innovation, Efficiency, Customer Service/Service Level, Inventory Management and Quality

     

  • Enhancing DC efficiency through deployment of lean methodologies, coaching and mentoring of team and associates, effective leadership of continuous improvement projects with exceptional data collection and visualization

     

  • Playing a supporting role in continuously improving the operation through technology and automation; apply insight and action against performance metrics/trends

     

  • Actively partnering with leadership across the Supply Chain and DC network to ensure alignment and best-practices cross-sharing where appropriate

     

  • Leading and coordinating various project teams as required 

     

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

     

    Experience required:

     

  • Needs to understand and have a record of applying, teaching and leading in a Lean and / or process / workflow improvement oriented capacity

  • Demonstrated skills leading both hourly associates and skilled technical associates

  • Ability to apply mathematics / analysis to quantify problems and impacts made by improvements to processes

  • Proven record of accomplishing goals through others; can demonstrate success working with others in a matrix environment where they did not have direct influence over their team members

  • Proven record of getting results with the resources at hand, but does not lose sight of the ultimate solution to a problem

  • Knowledge of supply chain execution systems including WMS, COFE, and forecasting and planning systems

  • Experience with Lean (developing standard processes, writing procedures, mentoring, and training groups of associates)

  • Strong project management expertise and ability to influence peers and senior management

  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, social, problem-solving, & planning skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication; strong facilitation and oral/written communication skills

  • Ambitious and driven; motivated by a dynamic environment

  • Good organization and planning skills, and conflict resolution skills

  • Self-starter with a proven ability to handle multiple programs/ projects

  • High proficiency of MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications; highly organized, efficient, strong attention to detail

     

    Education & Experience:

     

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain/Logistics, or related field; advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred or equivalent working experience.

  • 8+ years’ experience in supply chain management, extensive experience leading and/or participating in projects pertaining to distribution

  • 3+ years of experience leading technical or project teams, with or without direct report

  • 5+ years of experience in a Retail or Manufacturing Industry

  • PMP Certification; Lean / Six Sigma Training or Certification preferred

  • Experience documenting/designing business processes, performing business analysis, and requirements definition preferred

  • Formal training in change management methodology preferred
