The Manager, Disaster Recovery will provide leadership, management, and continued development of the Disaster Recovery program to ensure AEO, Inc. is prepared to respond to or recover from a disaster within established time frames. In partnership with the Business Continuity team, the Manager will develop procedures to ensure critical business functions can be resumed within a defined time frame, the amount of loss can be minimized and any stricken facilities can be repaired or replaced as quickly as possible.  

This includes partnership with the Business Continuity team in managing the design, development, maintenance, and exercising (testing) of the overall recovery plans for each critical functional area of the organization.  This position will also be responsible for managing and participating in any actual disaster recovery effort.


  • Serves as central point of contact for Disaster Recovery architecture, strategy and roadmap to support the effective recovery of infrastructure and applications
  • Maintains working knowledge of advanced Disaster Recovery tactics, techniques and procedures. Develops and implements new techniques to improve recoverability and resiliency as applications move to public/private cloud
  • Performs ongoing technical analyses of DR architecture to determine the readiness to meet the Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) as defined by the Business Impact Analysis; leads efforts to reach desired Disaster Recovery maturity
  • Oversees the development and execution of recovery tests, scenarios and exercises, including planning, facilitation, and reporting; Makes recommendations for improvements, prioritizes these opportunities, reports risks to management, and manages remediation efforts to completion
  • Conducts disaster recovery training and provides instructional and informational materials on how associates are expected to respond during an emergency
  • Develops, administers, and monitors program budget
  • Oversees and partners with the Business Continuity team to re-validating RTO/RPOs on a quarterly basis to help ensure that DR capabilities are capable of achieving RTOs/RPOs
  • Maintains a library of recovery support documentation, emergency response documentation, and exercise (testing) documentation 
  • Monitors the effectiveness of procedures during evacuation drills and revises the procedures as necessary 
  • Partners with the Business Continuity department to ensure that as new equipment, facilities, services, and systems are installed, the disaster recovery architecture is sufficient to accommodate RTOs/RPOs defined 
  • Establish resources and manages relationships with critical vendors/resources for off-site recovery and other resources required for successful resumption of business operations in the event of a disaster
  • Participates in outside contingency planning professional organizations and local/regional emergency response groups to stay up to date on best practices and trends
  • Provides 24/7/365 on-call support for any emergency which may require activation of all or part of the Disaster Recovery plans
  • All other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems, or a related discipline or equivalent work experience 
  • 5+ years of experience in technical disaster recovery planning and execution
  • Working knowledge of operations across ecommerce and retail stores and the ability to develop a clear understanding of the company’s key functional processes and resources including data, platforms, applications and operating systems both on prem and in the cloud
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of current disaster recovery planning techniques and technologies as well as the methods used in performing risk analyses and business impact analyses
  • Good project management skills; Ability to plan, organize, and direct the testing of emergency response, recovery support, and business resumption procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface with management and staff at all levels within the organization, vendors of record storage facilities and disaster recovery services
  • Working knowledge of recovery planning software
