AEO is seeking an ambitious and talented Lead Data Product Owner (DPO) to help our team lead the data and digital transformation of AEO. The DPO will effectively communicate and inspire others to drive alignment across engineers, designers, data scientists, executives and others to activate data driven insights and innovation within AEO. 

DPOs at AEO have both the strategic vision and the ability to create aligned roadmaps for tactical execution. They capture, synthesize, and communicate customer and partner needs to the data engineering teams and are master story tellers of the “what,” “why,” and when needed “how.” At 

AEO, our DPOs serve as an evangelist for consistent data driven insights and decisioning often working with the key business leaders defining the realm of possibility and activation path towards internal and external disruption. Ideal candidates enjoy data science, complex problem-solving, and high levels of customer interaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver roadmaps and translate data product requirements with prioritized features and corresponding justification
  • Solicit and capture product ideas from outside and inside the company. The DPO will understand where AEO is at on a Data Maturity Index compared to other retailers, as well as the overall technology community seeking to disrupt the retail experience.
  • Act as an effective liaison between engineering and internal business partners enabling a balance of “today,” “next,” and “transformation”
  • Work with AEOs data leadership team to enable consistent end-to-end data product strategy, priorities, and enterprise roadmaps
  • Act as a thought leader within the company and enable the activation of data being treated as an asset 


  • Usually at least 7+ years of experience working in technology companies with a mix of enterprise and “start-up” ecosystems; will have both an intrapreneur and entrepreneur background 
  • Usually at least of 3+ years of software product management experience with demonstrated success of data transformation 
  • Ability and eagerness to learn quickly, lead demos and share knowledge and experience with others to bring the whole organization along the transformation journey 
  • Experience working with or as a data analyst, as well as with or as a business, product, and/or engineering leader consuming or creating data products
  • Will lead with empathy using the knowledge and experience of how data assets are prioritized, created, and delivered
  • Ideally will have a computer science, engineering, or quantitative degree, or equivalent experience at enterprise level companies
  • Experience with data movement tools and techniques such as KAFKA, Spark, NiFi or Kinesis
  • Experience with enterprise data warehouses such as Google BigQuery, Redshift or Snowflake
  • Experience with an enterprise data governance strategy including security and metadata
