Lead – Outbound Planning & Optimization

As a Lead of Outbound Planning & Optimization at AEO, Inc., you will be responsible for planning outbound logistical activities/initiatives as well as supporting the digital order sourcing logic and necessary configurations to ensure the best movement of goods to our customers. You will be responsible for continuously assessing and optimizing all logistics processes in order to meet and exceed AEO’s operational goals while meeting business needs of profitability. In addition, you will lead efforts to deliver sound results that exceed customer expectations, optimize spend, and deliver innovation while working alongside a talented and passionate team.

Your responsibilities include:

  • In partnership with the Manager – Outbound Planning & Optimization, working with the Digital business to understand the strategic roadmap for business and convert these insights into supply chain process and technology capability needs
  • Performing in depth analysis on the actualization of rates and enhancing rate shopping and transit shopping capabilities; tweaking the network on an ongoing basis based on analytics and key insights
  • Onboarding and setting up new vendors, rate cards and continually identifying the overall digital delivery strategy and it’s mix (DTC vs. BOSS, national vs. regional vs. last mile provider)
  • Performing in depth network failure analysis on inventory positioning, demand forecasting, carrier selection, services levels and fulfillment node parameters to drive optimal network performance
  • Working across the team to proactively manage AEO’s shipping expense; identifying and solving for opportunities that will drive customer delight and generate cost reduction
  • In partnership with the Manager – Outbound Planning & Optimization and the broader Supply Chain Leadership Team, increasing velocity of outbound logistics and delivering cost savings in overall digital/DTC transportation spend; specifically by managing day-to-day outbound planning and optimization responsibilities which includes order shipping logic and inventory exposure logic 
  • Building and testing new capabilities and sourcing changes to enable in-market node, same day, next day and two-day delivery models; including steps towards personalization and localization experiences
  • Supporting strategic initiatives with ad hoc analysis over large datasets; collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data; using appropriate tools to automate analysis where able
  • Assisting with the management and fine-tuning of DTC order optimization engine logic; identifying the optimal configurations of inventory exposure, carrier and service selection, and fulfillment methods to reduce costs and delivery time, minimize fulfillment failures, and improve customer experience
  • Analyzing impacts of inventory placement, fulfillment node performance, and carrier performance on direct to consumer orders in order to improve network capabilities; acting as subject matter expert for current shipping processes, sourcing points, and distribution network
  • Developing, analyzing and disseminating moderately complex reports; articulating the story behind the data in order to translate the information into working solutions and recommendations
  • Participating in the procurement process of parcel transportation providers including business opportunity analysis, requests-for-proposals, contract negotiation, and ongoing management of vendor relationship as required
  • Managing the carrier selection rules based on the reliability of carriers, adherence to SLAs and cost performance (including accessorial)
  • Identifying and optimizing the opportunity for next day and two day delivery models versus express models
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Logistics, Supply Chain, Mathematics or related field; advance degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience working with supply chain management/logistics
  • Demonstrated ability of managing cost, performance, planning optimization; strong analytical and computer science background preferred
  • Strong understanding of transportation management methods, and experience with related software systems
  • Experience with data-driven analytics, metrics, KPIs to measure and drive results
  • Strong communication including written/verbal; experience presenting to large audiences including top leadership 
  • Ability to build trust and strong communication skills  
  • Ability to travel
