AEO INC. OFFERS PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS for students currently in their junior year, working towards a 4 year degree. As a supplement to your education, an AEO Inc. internship offers you the opportunity to work for 10 weeks in the fast paced retail environment with the potential of a full time offer before you even return to your senior year. Internships are available in Merchandise & Inventory Planning, Supply Chain and Merchandising. The AEO Internship Program is where careers begin and future leaders are discovered.

MERCHANDISING As a Merchandising Intern at AEO Inc. you will be partnered with a Merchant in either of our two brands and spend 10 weeks learning what it takes to create, edit and produce the assortment that ends up in stores. Merchants act as the hub of the wheel and manage an assortment from initial concept, through design, onto production and ultimately into our customers’ shopping bags. This role requires not only a passion for retail and trend, but also a very strong analytical and business acumen. If you love trends, shopping and clothing but have a passion for business, this is the role for you.

MERCHANDISE & INVENTORY PLANNING The Merchandise & Inventory Planning Internship prepares you to be the financial leader on our product and assortment choices. In this internship you will spend time exploring all functions within Merchandise & Inventory Planning and learn how we make business decisions that allow the company to continue growing. The Merchandise Planning piece of the internship teaches you how we create sales goals for product at a high level. In this role you will work closely with your buying team to decide exactly how much money we are going to invest in every style in your assortment and build the financial sales plan for that product. As an Inventory Planning Intern, you work closely with your teams to monitor inventory levels in our stores and our distribution centers and send out the right amount of product to the right stores so our inventory levels are maximized for profitability. If you have a passion for retail, but numbers are your friend, this is the internship for you.

SUPPLY CHAIN As a Supply Chain and Distribution Intern at AEO Inc. you will experience our supply chain strategies within our Omni-channel distribution centers and corporate locations. This internship include real-world, hands on touch points within our state-of-the-art facilities. You’ll interact with DC operations and corporate logistics departments, while gaining an in-depth understanding of our reporting tools and metrics. This exposure will help you understand how we effectively facilitate the processing and distribution of merchandise to 81 countries globally, and processes more than 75,000 internet orders daily. You’ll also learn and experience how we partner with our Buying, Merchandise & Inventory Planning and Stores teams to distribute merchandise to our American Eagle Outfitters and Aerie stores.


  • Students are eligible after they have completed their junior year at a 4 year college or university
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required
  • Strong business acumen through classes, internships or prior work experience

Partnered with a coach and a mentor who will foster your personal development, you will learn all of the tools necessary to become a Merchant for AEO Inc., choosing and developing the product assortment in more than 1,000 AE or aerie stores across the nation. In this position, it is not only important to have a creative understanding of trends, but you must also have the ability to make sound, informed business decisions.

INVENTORY PLANNING TRAINING PROGRAM This exciting program at AEO Inc. will prepare you for a fast-track career in the Inventory Planning organization within the AEO brands. You will learn the fundamentals of operating a $3+ billion business where you will have a direct effect on the bottom line profitability of your department. You will experience a 16-week rotational program highlighted by experience in two rotations of Inventory Planning. You will have a Mentor guiding you along the way and a Coach for each rotation. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be placed as an Associate Inventory Planner in a department within either of our core brands.


  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required
